Wellington Gets Another Chance for 2018 World Equestrian Games

Wellington Gets Another Chance for 2018 World Equestrian Games

About a year or so ago Bellisimo went to the Village of Wellington to present a great offer for hosting the 2018 World Equestrian Games. The deal was so good because the city of Wellington was not going to be required to put up any money but would get all the benefits and tax revenues as if they had. It was a sweet deal.   Wellington Equestrian World Equestrian Games

But of course, as most politicians go even at the local levels- they do not always have business sense. The himming and hawing and procrastinating of decisions created an aura of wishy washy commitment levels by the city counsel members. The presenters withdrew their proposal in the midst of this contention to save the embarrassment of what this would appear like to the World Equestrian Games commission.

This would be such a huge opportunity for our community of Wellington. The local businesses would prosper during that period and Wellington would get even more well known for our awesome equestrian opportunities and venues.

Bromont Canada ended up being chosen by the World Equestrian Games committee to be the host city. But Bromont was unable to come up with the money to host the games. On July 1, 2013- the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) announced it would reopen bidding.

The Equestrian Sports Productions said that they are willing to open discussions to host the games here with the town counsel of Wellington. The counsel members want to have a public workshop and look at the proposal and be able to ask questions to the ESP.

One of the counsel members said he was concerned how this will effect the residents. Well, I for one, will take a little extra traffic to know that money is being brought into our community! It is not rocket science to know that these kind of events can really help a city by bringing in extra revenue which in turn benefits the residents.

We hope that Wellington does accept this offer and places the bid to host the 2018 World Equestrian Games here.
