Wellington Polo: Polito Pieres Scored 2 Two-Pointers for the Win in the 2014 Outback 40-Goal Challenge
EFG Bank won the 2014 Outback 40-Goal Challenge on Saturday at International Polo Club in Wellington with Polito Pieres scoring on two 80-yard two-pointer in the last minute for a 11-10 victory over Equus & Co.
EFG Bank team were Adolfo Cambiaso, Polito Pieres, Pablo MacDonough and Miguel Novillo Astrada. While Equus & Co. were composed of Facundo Pieres, Sapo Caset, Gonzalito Pieres and Juan Martin Nero.
Equus & Co. led for most of the game. For the first chukker, Gonzalito Pieres scored a two-point shot with Nero adding one for a total of 3 scores over EFG Banks 2 scores from Astrada and MacDonough each.
In the second chukker, Facundo Pieres added another two points for the Equus & Co., 5-2. But Polito Pieres and Astrada cut the lead to 5-4 after scoring each. Caset scored his first goal for a total advantage of 6-4 at the end of the second chukker.
The first half was ended with Equus & Co. leading the game with 7-6 score.
In the fourth chukker, goals from Caset, Nero ad Facundo Pieres extended the lead to 10-6. Polito Pieres scored one for the team, 10-7.
The fifth chukker was ended scoreless. The sixth and the last chukker was also held scoreless for the first five minutes, but Polito Pieres managed to convert a pair of two-pointers in the last minute of the game. The game was reversed with EFG Bank winning against Equus & Co. for a total score of 11-10.
Polito Pieres led the victory of EFG Banks with six points, Astrada adding four and one from MacDonough while Facundo Pieres and Nero contributed three points each and Gonzalito Pieres and Caset two each in the loss.
The tournament is a yearly game meant to raise funds for the Wellington Polo Players Support Group, Inc. that offers financial assistance of $1.5 million to 48 players during the last 12 years.
