Casablanca (Grant Ganzi, Michael Bellissimo, Juancito Bollini, Matias Gonzalez) won against Pony Express (Benjamin Daniels, Justin Daniels, Jonny Lavine, Wes Bryan) during the Jimmer Newman Memorial Cup match in the PTF’s Junior Polo Championship at the International Polo Club Wellington with a 8-6 win on Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2014.
The Pony Express scored first making it 1-0, it was led by Justin Daniels. Matias Gonzales of Casablanca fired back with a pair of penalty conversions from 60-yard and 30-yards that gave Casablanca the 2-1 lead. Justin Daniels scored to even out the score before the first chukker ended, making it 2-2.
The defensive prowess of the junior players was demonstrated strongly during the second chukker with only two goals being scored. Matias Gonzales had his third goal giving Casablanca 3-2 lead. Pony Express responded quickly with another goal. Wesley Bryan gave his first blow in the game making it even at 3-3 by the end of the first half.
Casablanca’s Juancito Bollini made the first goal for the third chukker, giving them a 4-3 edge. Wesley Bryan’s second goal of the game made the score tie again. The next score in favor of Casablanca was made by Matias Gonzales to end the chukker with a 5-4 edge.
Wesley Bryan made another goal with a 30-yard penalty conversion in the fourth chukker, 5-5. Benjamin Daniels of Pony Express scored his first goal in the game making them take the lead, 6-5. The valiant Casablanca players scored three consecutive goals for the 8-6 victory.
Matias made five of the winning goals, two from penalty conversions while teammates Juancito Bollini scored twice and Michael Bellissimo goaled once. Wesley Bryan led the scoring for Pony Express, with three goals, one from a penalty shot. Justin and Benjamin Daniels scored twice and once respectively.
