Wellington Polo Event: Flight Options Meets Orchard Hill for Bobby Barry Cup Finals
The Bobby Barry Cup Wellington polo is becoming a neck-to-neck battle as each team is giving their blood and sweat to defeat one another.
Flight Options won with a narrow score of 9-8 over El Cabure in an overtime while Orchard Hill dumped Audi with 13-6 to make it to the Bobby Barry Cup finals.
In the Flight Options-El Cabure match, Miguel Astrada of the Flight Options scored the opening goal on a penalty shot followed by a goal from teammate Juan Bollini for a 2-0 lead. El Cabure’s Agustin Merlos responded with a goal for the team but Astrada ended the first chukker with 3-1 lead.
The tables had turned by the end of the first half with El Cabure leading with a narrow 5-4 score.
In the fourth, fifth and sixth chukker, the match heated up with both teams tying the score at 6-6, it remained 6-6, and 8-8 scores respectively which forced them into overtime.
Fred Mannix shot near the sideboards and from about 30-yards from the end of the line ending the overtime with 9-8 scores in favor of Flight Options.
Flight Options nine goals were made up of Astrada, Mannix and Bollini scoring five, three and one goals respectively. Merlos scored five times for El Cabure plus two goals by Calucho Arellano and one from Federico Virasoro.
While in the Orchard Hill-Audi match, the Orchard Hill took control of the game in the first half with scores of 8-3. Five goals lead were from Facundo Pieres.
In the second half, Orchard Hill continued to lead with 10-4 in the fourth chukker, 10-6 in the fifth and 13-6 in the last chukker for the victory.
Facundo Pieres made the seven goals for Orchard Hill added by Lucas Criado and Marcos Alberdi three goals each. Audi six points were from Nic Roldan scoring five goals and Nico Pieres for the other goal from the field.
Flight Options will meet Orchard Hill for the Bobby Barry Cup Finals on Sunday at noon.
